What's It All About?

Hi, If you don’t know me my name is Kurt Whitten and I am the Chairman of the Awsworth Community Association.

First of all I would like to thank Richard, from 'Tricky Designs', for building our fantastic new website.

It is now a good seven months since the first 'Party On The Rec' and I think you will all agree that it was a fantastic success. Hopefully you are all looking forward to July 26th 2008 - the date for 'Party On The Rec 2'.

So, where are we now? Well, we are very busy organizing 'Party on the Rec 2', putting plans in place for the BIG DAY itself, in addition to trying to organise all types of fundraising events, to ensure we MAKE IT HAPPEN.

This is where YOU come in! Last year's event cost in excess of £5000 and we need to achieve at least that amount again this year. With only 6 months to go, there remains a lot of money to raise. We will only succeed if YOU support our fundraising events. There are approximately 1300 homes in our area and if every household attended some of the events, and spent less than £5, we would be well on our way to giving the community another great day.

We did an event in October of last year , which took weeks and weeks to plan and everyone in the village said it was brilliant, but alas, we raised only £65. We have also tried Sunday tea dances (over 40 people turned up, but only 4 of them were from the village). We've done discos, live bands, comedy nights with top comedians from Jongleurs and so on. I know that discos and live bands are not everybody’s cup of tea, but please try to support us more in our fundraising events this year, as every penny counts!
